Russia criticizes NATO’s “irresponsible decisions” on the invasion

AndIn a statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the member countries of the Atlantic Alliance for taking “irresponsible decisions likely to lead to a disaster” and for focusing on the “militarisation of the European continent”.

NATO Heads of State and Government today reiterated their “unshakeable support” to Ukraine and announced €70 billion funding this year, committing themselves to maintaining “at least equivalent” levels in 2027.

“Ukraine contributes to transatlantic security and allies remain united in our unwavering commitment to Ukraine in its efforts to defend its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” reads in the final declaration of the NATO summit, which ended today in Ankara (Turkey) and brought together the leaders of the 32 member states of the Atlantic Alliance.

Leaders say that the European allies and Canada are the ones “funding the vast majority of security assistance provided to Ukraine bilaterally and multilaterally” and stress that support “should be fair, predictable and sustainable in the long term”.

“For 2026, the Allies undertake to provide €70 billion in military equipment, assistance and training for Ukraine and reaffirm their sovereign commitments to maintain at least equivalent levels of support in 2027”, indicate in the final document of the high-level meeting, welcoming the EU loan of €90 billion to Ukraine.

NATO Heads of State and Government also address the war in Iran in this declaration, but with a brief mention in a single sentence.

” The Allies reiterate that Iran should never have a nuclear weapon and call on Iran to fully respect the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Ormuz,” they say.
