Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov starts a two-day visit to Maputo on Thursday, with a working meeting with Mozambican counterpart Maria Manuela Lucas, today announced the Government of Mozambique.

Andm communiqué, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique states that at the meeting on Thursday the two rulers “will address the deepening and dynamism of the historical relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation”.
The two ministers will also discuss “the political, social and economic situation of their respective countries and regions”, it says.
It is added that the two-day visit of the head of Russian diplomacy to Mozambique, until Friday, “is in response to the invitation of Minister Maria Manuela Lucas, on her visit to the Russian Federation in July 2025”.
The Russian ambassador to Mozambique, Vladimir Tararov, met last March with the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Mozambican Community abroad, Maria Manso. At the time, according to Russian diplomacy, the meeting allowed us to discuss “current issues on the agenda of bilateral relations, including prospects for strengthening political dialogue at the highest and highest level”.
” Moscow and Maputo’s intention to continue coordinating their actions in the international arena, as well as within international structures, was confirmed, firstly, the UN. Particular attention was paid to the ways in which trade and economic relations were developed,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement.
As co-chairwoman of the Russian-Mozambican Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technique Cooperation, the Mozambican ruler stressed the importance of holding the next committee meeting by the end of 2026.
The Mozambican Government provides for six State visits by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, in 2026, to Canada, Botswana, Angola, Russia, China and Vietnam, and the signing of five international agreements.
