Sousa Real: Internal oppositions must respect “who the collective elects”

” Nwe can forget that, in democracy, internal oppositions have to be respected, but they also have to respect who the collective elects to represent them and who, above all, also says that it is present at the congress,” Lusa Inês Sousa Real said today.

The congresswoman, who spoke with Lusa on the margins of an event in Porto, considered that the party cannot allow them to “put into question the political work that has been done” and that the elected are harmed “by what are the objectives of the opposition (…), which have personal objectives that are not fulfilled with what are the objectives of the collective”.

Inês Sousa Real considered that the decision of the Constitutional Court (TC) is “manifestly disproportionate”.

” We are quite calm and, above all, with a clear conscience. We fully respected the mechanisms of internal democracy,” he said, ensuring that he will “wait quietly” for the decision of the TC.

The TC declared illegal part of the regulation of the last PAN Congress and, as a result, invalidated the last election of the party’s leadership, in which Inês de Sousa Real was re-elected spokesman.

The decision is contained in a judgment of the Constitutional Court, to which Lusa had access, dated 13 July and made following a request for a challenge by the PAN militant Carolina Pia to the election of the members of the internal organs of the party that took place at the X Congress of the PAN, held on December 20, 2025, in Coimbra.

On Thursday, the party announced that it will appeal to the plenary of the Constitutional Court (TC) of the decision.

On the same day, the Transform to Grow movement, of internal opposition to the current leadership of the PAN, called for the resignation of the party’s spokesman, Inês de Sousa Real, and defended the holding of a new Congress with internal elections.

At the last congress, Inês de Sousa Real was reelected for a third term as PAN spokesperson, with 69 of the 72 delegates’ votes, winning all the seats of the National Political Commission.

Today, in Porto, Inês Sousa Real was also “solidary” with families, students and the teaching community regarding the problems with the classification of national exams.

Recognizing that reforming and implementing digitisation in the process is “found and accurate”, the party leader considered that it should have occurred more gradually.

” It is often said that there is no one quickly and well and, in fact, the [Education] Minister here ended up having a negative assessment of what this process was about,” he said.
