Three hours later, deputy of the Aquida backs the request to leave the bench

O José Dias Fernandes, a Member of the Aquida, withdrew today, at the end of the afternoon, in the request to proceed to the condition of not registered, only three hours after submitting a request to disengage from the party bench.

Questioned by the Lusa agency, source of the office of the President of the Assembly of the Republic confirmed these two initiatives by José Dias Fernandes, elected by the circle of Europe.

Second parliamentary source, early this afternoon the office of José Pedro Aguiar-Branco received an email from José Dias Fernandes asking to pass the deputy not registered, untying from the bench of the Enough.

However, at the end of the afternoon, another communication was received from the honourable Member requesting that the previous request which he had made early in the afternoon be disregarded.

Shortly after the publication of the news that they realized that José Dias Fernandes would abandon the party bench, official source of this political force told Lusa that the elected “will continue to be a deputy of Enough”. The same source then confirmed the deputy’s retreat.

Lusa tried to contact the deputy several times, but José Dias Fernandes did not answer or answer her phone.

In the last parliamentary elections, the Aquida managed to elect 60 Members, two more than the PS, despite having had fewer votes.

If José Dias Fernandes left, the bank of the city would have 59 elected and if it lost another deputy the party would run the risk of being no longer the second main political force.

According to the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic, a Member who does not wish to join the parliamentary bench of the party for which he was elected communicates it to the President of the Assembly of the Republic and exercises his mandate as a non-attached Member.

In the previous legislature, the Aquida had already had a dissent from the parliamentary group, when Miguel Arruda was not registered after news that reported that the former deputy was suspected of stealing luggage at airports on trips between the Azores and Lisbon.

José Dias Fernandes was elected by the first Member of the Aça list by the circle of Europe in the 2024 legislatures and re-elected in the last elections to the Assembly of the Republic last year. Both times he led the list of candidates through that circle.

According to the official ‘site’ of the Parliamentary Group of the Aquida, José Dias Fernandes is from Viana do Castelo and emigrated to France in the 1970s.
