” When I was an intern, he treated me with humility and affection,” Zé Lopes recalled when giving a public compliment to Tony Career. The presenter decided to ignore the criticisms and publicly re-enhance the character and career of those who, in his opinion, deserve recognition.

Zis Lopes decided to ignore the criticisms of which he was targeted in the past and to re-use his public voice, namely social networks, to make public praises.
“There was a time when I often gave public praise to people who inspired me. I’m not sure why I stopped doing it. Perhaps because, without realizing it, I let myself be infected by a world where criticism echoes more than recognition. Now empathy seems to be forgotten,” he lamented.
The TVI host believes that these days it is “easy to point fingers, criticizing is almost automatic and praising seems to cost”.
Ready to be “an exception to the rule”, Zé Lopes felt that “it was the right time” to publicly pay tribute to Tony Career.
After seeing an interview by the musician, concerning Rock in Rio, the host of the “Good Morning Joy” program on the V+ TVI channel, reflected on “the dimension of the person he is”.
“Tony is undoubtedly the greatest artists that Portugal has. He’s built a career with work, persistence and dedication that few can match. Over decades he has gained a prominent place in Portuguese music and continues to move thousands of people who follow him with impressive fidelity. But for me, true greatness has never been on stage alone.
I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the way you treat those who accompany you. The respect, availability, affection and gratitude shown by fans tell a lot about the man beyond the artist. Never forget who took him to where he is. And that’s worth more than any platinum album or sold-out room.”
Zé Lopes also recalled the beginning of his professional career, when he was “only an intern” and was treated with great affection by Tony Career.
” Since the beginning of my professional career, when I was just an intern, he treated me with a sympathy, humility and affection that I will never forget. Tony never made a distinction between who was starting and who had a name already made. And to me, it says all about the character of a person.”
Finally, the communicator addressed the recent loss that shook the Career family. The youngest daughter of the musician and ex-wife, Fernanda Antunes, Sara Carreira, died unexpectedly in December 2020 in a tragic car accident.
” Then life put before him one of the greatest pains: the loss of a daughter. And even in the face of this pain impossible to imagine, he chose to transform suffering into love, continuing Sara’s legacy through the Sara Carreira Association. There are gestures that speak louder than any speech. For all this, I felt I should write you these words. Especially since good people also need to hear that they make a difference.
Some artists fill rooms. There are men who fill hearts. And Tony gets both,” it’s over.
