” Deight U.S. military personnel were killed in action in Jordan, while CENTCOM and allied forces defended themselves against ballistic missile attacks and Iranian drones,” said CENTCOM in a statement.

Four other U.S. military personnel were taken to Jordanian hospitals, but were discharged. “Other military personnel were treated for minor injuries and returned to service,” added CENTECOM in the statement.

No further information about the victims was released “out of respect for families”, and their names should only be released 24 hours after the death notification.

This attack raises to 16 the number of deaths of American military personnel officially confirmed since the beginning of the latest military escalation between the two sides, on 28 February.

The Revolutionary Guard of Iran reported that it made attacks on U.S. positions at the military base of Muwaffaq Salti, in the central-north Jordan region, in full resumption of hostilities with Washington, which threaten to compromise the preliminary peace agreement signed by the two countries on 17 June.

Iranian missiles hit hangars with U.S. fighter planes and “a large parking lot”.

Hours earlier Iran had already claimed that an earlier attack had struck American fuel deposits at the base, a facility Tehran considers strategic due to its location, military infrastructure and role in US operations in the Middle East.

The Jordanian Army reported having shot down four Iranian drones, not to mention any damage to the air base. The statement was released by official news agency Petra.

Today the United States of America (USA) and Iran exchanged attacks on military infrastructure and targets, while an Iranian negotiator announced the suspension of Tehran’s commitments under the interim agreement with the Americans.

The U.S. Central Command today stated that its seventh consecutive night of attacks hit “surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructures, underground weapons warehouses and maritime capabilities.”

In turn, Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, told Iranian state television that “the US violated its commitments under the agreement signed about a month ago and now Iran is no longer meeting [its own commitments]”.

Today, the most significant damage occurred in Kuwait when Iran attacked a water desalination station and an oil facility, according to the Kuwaiti authorities and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
