O also spokesperson and deputy of Livre, Rui Tavares, said, this Wednesday, that the political landscape has been “downgraded”, pointing out that the party’s new strategy is to “save the portuguese policy” and give “alternatives to people”.

Rui Tavares will soon cease to be spokesperson for the Free, and the Party will choose a new bicephalic leadership at the Congress, which takes place this weekend.

” The members of the Free will choose what strategy the Party should pursue in the coming years. Portuguese politics is in a very dangerous hole, political discourse has been lowered. It is today very aggressive, insulting, rude,” he began by saying, in the Great Interview, RTP News, when asked about what will change in the party.

For Rui Tavares, “there is nothing sadder than a Member of the Assembly of the Republic finding his fellow citizens on the street and people coming to say that what is happening in the Assembly is a circus, it is a joke”, and he even pointed the finger at André Ventura’s party that “when he arrived in Parliament he did this with one, 12 Members and now 60 Members”.

Asked whether this has contributed to the poor image of Parliament with the Portuguese, the spokesperson for the Free stressed that it “contributed and is intentional”.

He stressed the following: “Unlike Roberto Martínez, we believe in spinning spearheads.” And when asked if he was going ‘to the bank’, Rui Tavares said he will “go to a function that has a name, a pelour of Strategy, Communication and Training”.

It should be noted that Isabel Mendes Lopes will remain as spokesperson for the Free and for the place of Rui Tavares should be elected Jorge Pinto, former candidate of the presidential elections of 2026. “The novelty with this list that is presented to the elections is that it designates in advance with transparency what the roles are,” he stressed.

Rui Tavares also said that the Free considers that “the party must have a secretary-general” and that, therefore, the name of Tomás Cardoso was presented for this role, justifying this decision with the increase of the party. “Quintupulous. We want to continue to grow and therefore it is important to take care of this part,” he explained.

As for his departure, Rui Tavares pointed out that he always refused “the idea of leader of the Free” and that normally people leave the leadership following electoral defeats or scandals, noting that it is his case.

“In my case, we have term limitations. I did two terms in the direction, I can make a third,” he said, adding that he did not want to do this third term as a co-voicer because he did not want to leave “because there was a deadline above”.

“I wanted to let others, who I think are in better condition than me – Isabel Mendes Lopes and Jorge Pinto – do this role,” he pointed out.

Rui Tavares abandons Free leadership. Jorge Pinto will succeed

The spokesman for Livre Rui Tavares will leave the leadership of the party, remaining as a deputy, remaining on the list to the board at the July Congress, with Isabel Mendes Lopes and Jorge Pinto advancing in joint candidacy for the position of spokespersons.
