O Benfica won, at the end of the night of Thursday, the Turks of Denizli Basket, by 96-91, in the second round of the Group G of the FIBA Europe Cup, and added the second victory in Group G, which leaves the eagles in the isolated leadership of the classification table.

After the triumph in Copenhagen, on his visit to the Danish enclosure of Bakken Bears, Benfica returned home to face the Turks of Denizli Basket, achieving the second victory in so many other games in the competition. The eagles follow from wind to aft in the race, after the surprising elimination in the League of Basketball Champions.

The incarnates played a strong role and gained advantage in the first period (28-23), figures that eventually proved accurate given the recovery operated by the Turks in the last period. At the break, the advantage of the red class was 50-45. The eagles lost ten points of advantage in the last period, but hold the victory.

Aaron Broussard, captain of Benfica, was the best scorer of the 22-point meeting, which he added seven highlights and two assists. Also highlighted Geno Crandall who reached two dozen points by the incarnates. On the Turkish side, the highlight goes to the German Mahir Agba who traveled to Lisbon to write down a double (17 points and 12 points).

Accounts made, Benfica leads group G with four points in two games and is isolated at the top, with one more than Geneva Lions, Prievidza, Denizli Basket and Bakken Bears. In the next round, on October 21, the incarnates receive the BK Prievidza.

Sporting triumphs on the way to Romania

After the triumph in the extension to the Bulgarians of Rilski Sport by 79-75, Sporting won in Romania the SCM Craiova by 97-77, in the second round of Group C of this European competition.

The meeting was expected to be difficult for national colors and the first minutes confirmed this. The lions did not enter well and came to have a disadvantage of five points (3-8). However, a time discount requested by Bernardo Pires made the difference and Sporting won for 48-43, with Liam O’Reilly and Kalscheur with 10 points each.

In the third period, Sporting moved to 55-43 and reached the last quarter to win by 73-57. The Romanians outlined a reaction in the last period, but it was insufficient to withdraw the victory to the Portuguese ensemble.

Liam O’Reilly was the best lion scorer with 20 points and four assists. André Cruz was close to a double-double (10 points and six caveats). The American Ronald Polite (26 points) was the most accurate of the meeting.

Sporting has now joined Esenler Erokspor and Kolossos Rhodes at the top of Group C, and the Greeks are the lions' next opponents on 21 October.

It is recalled that only the first two classifieds move forward in the race
