O Mozambican National Institute of Meteorology (Inam) today issued a yellow warning to the three southern provinces of the country, due to the forecast of intense heat, with temperatures up to 39 degrees Celsius from Thursday.
According to the warning, the phenomenon should extend until Sunday, October 18, covering several districts of the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane.
In the province of Maputo, the alert mainly covers the districts of Boane, Namaacha, Moamba, Magude, Manhiça, Marracuene and Matutuine.
In Gaza, it includes, among others, the districts of Chibuto, Guijá, Mapai, Chicualacuala, Mandlakazi, Chókwè and Massingir, as well as the city of Xai-Xai.
In Inhambane, the notice mainly covers the districts of Zavala, Maboth, Funhalouro, Panda and Inharrime.
The Inam attributes the forecast to the persistence of hot and humid air transport and indicates that high temperatures should also affect the country's central region, especially the districts located along the Zambezi valley.
The institute recommends the adoption of precautionary and safety measures against the heat wave and plans to update the warning on Thursday at 10:00 locals (09:00 in Lisbon).
