Dand according to the information disclosed, postmen and drivers will not be affected by the measure, which represents a cut of more than 2% in a total of 131,000 employees.
Royal Mail added that the removal of jobs, which will be done through voluntary exits, responds to the strong fall in the volume of letters, despite the increased delivery service.
The company stated that it is undergoing “significant transformation” as it reforms the service and adapts to a rapidly evolving market.
“As part of a transformation program, Royal Mail is simplifying processes and functions throughout the company and today announced proposals for an organizational review of headquarters and support functions,” he said.
Royal Mail’s executive president Alistair Cochrane said that the company is working to reduce costs and simplify processes in all areas of business in a highly competitive market.
The leader undertook to treat this process in a “just and respectful way”, collaborating with the trade unions, while recognising that changes will not be easy.
