Debast continues to be a headache in Sporting and fails to hit with LASK

Zand Debast is still a headache for Rui Borges at Sporting. The Belgian international failed, to total surprise, the visit to Lens on Tuesday, not getting to travel to France, and should not recover in time to be an option for the next fight in the Champions League, this time before the LASK Linz, advance the sports press this Friday. 

At the origin of the absence of Debast there was a muscular discomfort, which continues to remain. Sporting starts the preparation for the game of Wednesday from Saturday, but the Belgian defense will not be part of the plans, joining the injured Nuno Santos and Rodrigo Zalazar. 

The same injury, the newspaper says BOLA was contracted to the Belgian national team in the League of Nations, despite the fact that the 22-year-old footballer did not add up at all in the four games (Italy, France, Turkey and France). 

The management of Debast will thus have to be done with tweezers and with the medical department to trace as an objective to recover the Belgian player in time to be an option for the duel with the Academic of Viseu, of the 9th day of the I League, scheduled for October 25. 

Debast, remember, has not played for Sporting since the match against Arouca (2-2), played on 19 September, where he ended up receiving expulsion order, at 54 minutes, with a direct red.

Although Sporting was defianced at a time of tighter timing, Rui Borges ensured, even before the Lens stronghold victory, that he was not concerned about Zeno Debast's situation

“Debast went to the selection and didn’t play, it was growing physically but in training felt a little discomfort. Nothing to worry about, but we chose not to risk it”, explained the lion coach, in the preview of the match. 

Debast, remember, arrived in Alvalade in the summer of 2024, from the Anderlecht and for over 17 million euros, and his passage through Sporting has been marked by some physical problems. 

Zalazar also out of play. Kaique grabs the place? 

Who will also fail the game with LASK Linz is Zalazar, as Sporting coach confirmed. The Uruguayan international is counting with a muscle injury to the left thigh, contracted in Braga, where he entered and scored, but had to be replaced. 

In turn, Kaique Pereira may have taken a seat at eleven, after having been Rui Borges' bet to take over the goal of Sporting against Lens, relegating Rui Silva to the bench of alternates. 

At the press conference that followed the final whistle, Rui Borges justified the bet on Kaique Pereira with the “moment” that the usual holder, Rui Silva, goes through, but also with “the characteristics of the game”.

“ We knew we could spend more time in a lower block and Kaique gives more features to these games”, he started by analyzing Sporting's technician. 

“ More out of the poles than Rui. And in defense of the area, it was important to have someone who would provide this security. It's a lot out there. In the future, you'll see. Both will always give the answer”, said Rui Borges.
