Na statement sent to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) of Spain, BPCE and Sabadell classify the operation as friendly and indicate that the French group intends to remain a stable and long-term shareholder.
The BPCE, the second largest French banking group and owner of Natixis, will take place on the Sabadell Board of Directors, and strategic cooperation between the two groups will also be explored.
The objective is to make BPCE’s capabilities and services available to Sabadell’s customers and create additional value through collaboration between the two entities.
The French group may continue to increase participation in Sabadell, but has clarified that it does not want to exceed 9.9% of the capital, and is now becoming a strategic shareholder.
BPCE fully supports Sabadell’s strategy and growth plans, as well as the current bank management team, according to the statement.
In addition to Novo Banco in Portugal and Natixis, the BPCE group holds the banks Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne in France.
