The Minister of Labour confirmed the existence of an error of the General Pensions Fund (CGA) in the calculation of almost 3,000 pensions, indicating that the extra paid amounts will have to be refunded.

A minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, confirmed on Wednesday the existence of an error of the General Pensions Box (CGA) in the calculation of almost 3,000 pensions.
What happened?
Several media outlets have reported that the CGA will correct 2,937 pensions awarded between may and august of this year, after having detected an error in the calculation that led to them being fixed above the amount laid down in the law.
On average, pensioners will receive less 93.31 euros gross per month.
Later, the minister confirmed the existence of deception:
“It is a technical deficiency in the clearance of the pension, which will naturally be corrected. The Presentations Box has already issued information about this and will therefore be corrected“, said Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho.
The governor spoke to journalists outside the opening session of the Congress of the National Confederation of Solidarity Institutions (CNIS) dedicated to the theme “Poverty and Social Protection” that takes place in Aveiro.
Questioned by journalists, the minister explained that she was only aware of the error on tuesday, clarifying that it is a technical error “in the parameterization of the application of the regime”, for four months, between may and august.
Are pensioners going to have to return the extra money?
Yeah. Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho also said that persons who received the pension above that to which they were entitled, under the legal regime, will have to return the amounts that received the most.
“ In fact, if an undue payment is found, legal terms will have to be restored, but legal solutions will be combined with the affected ones themselves. In fact, people have already received a letter on this matter, we are told, and so there are several ways to replace it”, he concluded.
How much will you raise your pension?
As pensions up to eur 1,074 are expected to increase above the inflation rate by 2027, due to the performance of the portuguese economy in the second quarter of the year, which influences the reform update formula.
This is because the average growth of gross domestic product (GDP) in the last two years should be above 2%, ensuring that by the automatic updating formula in force, about 90% of pensions will increase above inflation.
In the case of pensions up to two IAS, the increase will be higher than inflation if the average economic growth is between 2% and 3%. If that average is below 2%, pensions will only have an update equivalent to inflation.
