Maduro and Flores should be charged by prosecutors in New York to torture U.S. citizens who were in Venezuelan prisons, CNN, which cites several sources related to the investigation.

In the process that runs at the Federal Court of the South District of New York, the former presidential marriage already faces accusations of conspiracy to traffic cocaine into the United States and possession and conspiracy to possess destructive weapons. Mature is still accused of narcoterrorism.

Sources close to the investigation advanced to the station that the new prosecution could be based on the illegal arrest, according to the government, of more than a dozen Americans in Venezuelan prisons while Maduro was in power.

One source indicated that this accusation could also be extended to other people, equally accused of torturing American citizens.

The announcement of the new charges may be made publicly already on Thursday, when the judge responsible for the case, Alvin Hellerstein, has foreseen a hearing on Flores' request for house arrest, adds the station.

The lawyers of the former First Lady of Venezuela claim that she suffers a delicate and progressive deterioration of her heart condition, aggravated during the months of prison, where she shares the unit with more than 40 inmates in an environment they consider counterproductive for any medical recovery.

Maduro and Flores are being detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, where they were transferred last January after being detained by the U.S. forces in Caracas presidential palace.

Both declared themselves innocent of all the charges they face.

US Attorneys Reject Immunity to Nicolás Maduro

The United States rejects the idea that former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro may enjoy immunity in the criminal proceedings he faces in New York and claim that the Government led by Delcy Rodríguez did not claim such protection.
