PS/Aveiro wants to include extension of Aveiro Hospital in OE2027

Omembers of the PS elected by the circle of Aveiro will present a proposal to include in the State Budget (OE) for 2027 the expansion works of the Hospital of Aveiro, was announced today.

In a statement sent to the journalists, the Federation of Aveiro of the PS says that, given the absence of the expansion of the Hospital of Aveiro in the OE proposal for 2027, socialist deputies will submit a proposal for amendment in the phase of discussion in the specialty.

“The objective is to ensure that the requalification, expansion and modernization of this health unit is explicitly inscribed in the document, with the conditions that allow the continuity of the investment to be ensured,” says the same note.

This step materializes the commitment made by the Federation of Aveiro do PS, which assumes that it will do everything to allow the work to be contemplated again in the budget, like what happened in 2026.

The PS also states that it remains committed to the implementation of this investment, which considers it essential to improve the response capacity of the National Health Service and the conditions for providing care to the population throughout the region.

Following the presentation of the OE's proposal for 2027, the mayor of Aveiro, Luís Souto Miranda (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), said he trusted in fulfilling the Government's commitments, particularly in relation to the expansion and requalification works of the Hospital.

Although the Authority acknowledges the concerns raised by the absence of an express reference to this investment in the budget proposal, it considers that this circumstance should not in itself be interpreted as abandoning the project.

“ We trust that the Government will fulfil the commitments made with Aveiro and will continue to be committed to the expansion and requalification of our Hospital. This is an essential investment to improve the quality of health care provided to the population of Aveiro and the whole region”, he said, quoted in a note.

The municipality also recalls that the process of expansion of the hospital has been developing, although conditioned by procedural and judicial issues related to the hiring of the project.

The House therefore considers it important to distinguish the phase of preparation of the project from the implementation phase of the work, ensuring that the existing constraints and the financial conditions necessary for the implementation of the investment are overcome.

“ It is important that the process continues and that the existing constraints are overcome, ensuring, at the appropriate time, the financial conditions for the execution of the work”, added the mayor.
