A European Commission today accepted Sanofi pharmaceutical commitments to close the campaign launched to denigrate a vulnerable patient influenza vaccine developed by a competing pharmaceutical laboratory.
This is alleged to be a denigration campaign promoted by Sanofi, Germany and France on the Fluad vaccine, which competes with Efluelda, developed by the French laboratory.
Sanofi, according to information from the Community executive, responded to preliminary competition concerns, undertook to make “proactive communication actions in order to rectify and annul the possible effects of potentially misleading messages disclosed on Fluad, as well as to refrain from any communication that retracts Fluad in a negative way or raises doubts about its performance.
In a communication campaign aimed at health professionals, the French company suggested that Fluad's scientific evidence base is weaker than that of Efluelda, in contradiction with scientific data.
The Sanofi and Fluad Efluelda vaccines of CSL Seqirus are specifically designed to prevent influenza in patients over 60 years of age.
