Donald Trump accused today the Huthis of “bringing the price of oil up” before the US elections in November, without however announcing increased support to the Saudis in confrontation with the Yemeni rebels.
“The Huthis are behaving very badly,” he wrote on his social network, adding that “I thought they had learned the lesson a year ago, when we bombed them mercilessly and stopped the attacks at their request.”.
Trump referred to U.S. bombings against the Huthis in March 2025.
“ They remained silent for a long time, but returned to the surface, perhaps at Iran’s request (...), attacking Saudi Arabia in an odious manner, and seeking to raise the price of oil, no doubt before the elections” Trump added.
The vast majority of polls predict that Republicans will lose control of Congress because of the discontent caused by rising prices, particularly in fuel pumps.
Trump said on Saturday that he would decide “very soon” whether the US would join the Saudi attacks against the Huthis in Yemen after such an attack on Riyadh airport.
But he wrote today in his message, “someone should explain to them that I am not going to elections (...), but that I will be here after the elections, and I will not forget”.
The scale of the attacks by Huthis on petromonarchy, which caused 13 deaths and hundreds of wounded on Saturday at Riyadh airport, has reached unprecedented levels since 2015.
First world oil exporter and largest Middle East economy, Saudi Arabia is shaken by these new attacks, which add to the Saudi problems arising in particular from the closure of the Ormuz Strait.
