Pthe United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Portugal as a “strong ally” of the United States.

 

Remember that Marco Rubio will be visiting Lisbon this week, where he will have meetings on the “domains of defense, economy and technology”.

Asked by journalists about his trip to Portugal and Greece, the American noted that the two countries are “important allies” of the United States.

“In the case of Portugal, they have been a strong ally once again, and we have the opportunity to visit them”, stated in press conferencethis monday. 

On Greece, Rubio stressed that he is also “a very important ally”, stressing “the strong economic ties”. 

It should be noted that the US Secretary of State will visit Reykjavik in Iceland; Athens, Greece; and Lisbon, Portugal, October 5-8. 

In Lisbon, the ruler will meet “with Portuguese leaders to promote cooperation in the fields of defense, economy and technology”. In particular, the Secretary of State has scheduled meetings with the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and his counterpart, Paulo Rangel, according to Lusa official source of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It should be remembered that on the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, marked on June 10, Rubio addressed “warm greetings” to the country, as well as having evoked the long friendship among nations.

“ On behalf of the American people, I send warm greetings to Portugal, which celebrates the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities. [...] At a time when the United States is preparing to celebrate its 250 years of independence next month, we recognize Portugal as one of our oldest and most faithful partners,” he said in a statement.

Rubio also stressed that the partnership between Portugal and the United States “has its strength not only by aligning economic and political interests, but by the links between people”.

“ Friendship between our nations remains strong and we extend our best wishes to the Portuguese community around the world”, he wrote.

Marco Rubio in Lisbon next week. It will meet with “responsible”

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will pass through Iceland, Greece and Portugal between October 5 and 8. In Lisbon, the ruler will meet “with those responsible”.
