O announcement by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, that he will meet with leaders of PS and Arrivo, on Thursday, to hear proposals on housing was seen today by a spokesman of the Porto Camp movement as a “partial victory”.
“It’s a partial victory. The Socialist Party and the People's Party do not have any proposals that we consider to be sufficiently in line with our demands, but it may still be that something positive comes out of there and we know and understand that this is the functioning of elected representatives. We are not elected representatives, we are a popular mobilization that is still organized to present serious proposals. When our turn comes to be heard, we will have things to say,” Sérgio Bastos told journalists.
Bastos answered when asked about this announcement of dialogue, after reading a communication about what Luís Montenegro said at 8:00 p.m., and considered that at the Camp they are all “hopeful and peaceful people” who expect “positive results from all audiences and dialogues”.
“ We know the limitations of political orientation that this government has. We do not expect talks to produce great results. From the government, we want to demand material achievements, results. And this will certainly come, I imagine, through dialogue, in the procedures that the popular assembly legitimizes, and that the Prime Minister understands demanding”, he added.
To say the same, he also said, he said, on the part of Luís Montenegro, that from outside the policies for the housing of the current Government is a “social majority” that is represented by the Camp.
“Luís Montenegro says that the government has assisted the population, that it has exposed its program and that it has not now agreed. I would venture to say that you have listened to real estate funds, exposed an incomplete and misleading programme and that unfortunately you are still asleep to the reality of access to housing. (...) He spoke of having approved seven times more support than in recent years, but without roof or moderation in rents, it is the same as saying that he approved seven times more subsidies to landlords ", criticized.
Sérgio Bastos also commented on the “concern with quietness, order, health, preservation of the public space” that the ruler expressed, by the camp to share.
“ It is great to come to help our cleaning work group or to suggest to the police that not spank us ", ironized.
Considering that people do not feed on ‘ratings’, he said that the movement proposes “low oaths and fiscally responsible measures”, because they “eat bread and live in homes.”.
“ It is very difficult to accept a Prime Minister who does not know that bread and house are very expensive for those who work ", shot.
In addition, the popular assembly, with about 150 people, today decided to remain in resistance in Praça D. João I, where they have protested for the right to housing since October 10, even having been subjected to three police charges, and keep the tents mounted, more than a dozen, which have been there since the day before, having the police consented to the overnight last night.
The possible formation of a Representation Committee for possible meetings, such as with the President of the Republic or the mayor of Porto, Pedro Duarte, but without final decision, was also voted in the form of “scanning”.
