O winter transfer market opens in approximately two and a half months, and is generating a certain apprehension within AC Milan, as the weeks continue to pass... and the new sports director continues not to appear, although this is a dossier that remains at the top of the priorities.

The club owner, Gerry Cardinale, personally took over the management of the authentic ‘revolution’ that took place last summer following a sport season of 2025/26 below expectations (which culminated in a fifth place, in Serie A, and consequent failure in the race for a place in the Champions League), but later to find the ideal man.

Igli Tare, who was previously responsible for the job, remember, was one of the first ‘victims’ of this process, along with the coach, Massimiliano Allegri, whose resignation paved the way for the hiring of Ruben Amorim. Still, according to the Sunday edition of the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the feeling is optimism.

The owner of the rossonero emblem has, at the moment, three great candidates for the vacancy, with the curiosity that two of them are also... Portuguese, starting from the outset, by José Boto, who has served as Technical Director of Flamengo since December 2024.

Tiago Pinto, executive director of professional football at Bournemouth that also has a past in Benfica, is another of the names on the rail, and in this case it has the advantage of knowing well the transalpine football, given the passage by AS Roma (where he worked with José Mourinho), between 2021 and 2024.

The third and last name on this list is Mehdi Benatia, former player of Udinese, AS Roma and Juventus, who has been free since last June, when he left the position of Sports Director of Marseille, and who will even have been the subject of exploratory contacts by the training based in Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Ruben Amorim will invest... and keep Gonçalo Inacio under his eye

The aim of AC Milan is to ensure that Ruben Amorim has a ‘ally’ to the height of ‘attack’ the next defense in the best possible position in order to fill the various gaps already identified in the main squad, starting from the center of defense, which has proved particularly problematic.

The Portuguese coach intends to solve this ‘headache’ as soon as possible, and to do so he can even resort to those who know their tactical principles best, as is the case of... Gonçalo Inacio, a player that he himself launched on the main team of Sporting, on his arrival in Sporting, in 2019/20.

The Luso international, remember, renewed a contract with the lions less than a year ago, until June 2030, becoming ‘shielded’ by a termination clause worth EUR 60 million, which is not enough to ‘run’ the rossoneri, which already last summer led a ‘neg’ by a concrete proposal, in the order of EUR 40 million.
