A Anthropic announced that it will assign 5% of the shares to a new “public benefit” fund, whose value could increase as the shares of the U.S. artificial intelligence company (IA) value themselves.

The shares will be incorporated into Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new entity within the company.

The fund “will have greater flexibility and scale, allowing us to continue our mission in new ways: for example, we will be able to explore large donations to traditional non-profit organizations or direct distributions to specific populations,” Anthropic said in a publication on the company’s blog on Sunday.

Technology has cited the impact on the labour market as an example. Although it has already set aside 200 million dollars (178 million euros) to study the effects of AI, the company noted that “given the pace of progress of AI, bolder approaches may be needed”.

Anthropic generates $16.8 billion before entering the stock market

Anthropic announced revenues of $16.8 billion in the third quarter, a 45% increase from the previous quarter to a few weeks of entering the stock exchange.

The current leader Dario Amodei and the other five co-founders established Anthropic as a “public benefit corporation”, a designation adopted by profit-making companies seeking to balance financial goals and social impact.

In addition to the co-founders' commitment to donate 80% of their personal assets, there is a programme in which around half of the employees of the company participate, which allows them to allocate part of their shares, and Anthropic offers an equivalent contribution.

After the Sunday announcement, Anthropic ensured that about 20% of the company’s shares will be dedicated to the “public good”, and any additional percentage that can be included if the company’s market value reaches specific milestones.

Anthropic plans to conduct a stock listing operation, possibly already in November.
