O minister of Internal Affairs today promised “to value especially” the police who are on the streets patrolling and protecting the populations, within the ongoing negotiating process with the union structures.

“ I want to be clear about one of the premises that we have in mind for the ongoing negotiating process: to value especially the police officers who, every day, are on the streets, on the front line, protecting the people. The agents who patrol, who respond to the occurrences, who face the risk and who ensure the most direct contact with citizens ", said Luís Neves, in possession of the new national director of PSP, chief superintendent Pedro Moura.

The minister maintained that it is in the police who are on the streets that the government should “focus particular attention” when discussing “the appreciation of careers”.

“The Government maintains the commitments made in the Government Programme and in the agreement of 2024, continuing negotiations with professional representatives. We know that all the results have not yet been achieved. But the goal remains and we will get there ", stressed.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has an ongoing negotiation process with the PSP unions that includes changes to professional status, careers and supplements.

The Trade Union Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP), which accuses the Government of not complying with the agreement of 2024, has been holding protests in several cities of the country, having a concentration scheduled for Wednesday in Faro.
