Cdrista Pike, a prisoner sentenced to death and who survived two lethal injections, spoke for the first time about what she felt when she woke up.

In a statement issued by her defense team, the United States, states that “he agreed confused and with pain,” when on September 30 his execution was not well executed.

Christa Pike was sentenced to death for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, a 19-year-old colleague of the Job Corps vocational training program in Knoxville in 1995.

“A month ago, on September 30, I entered the execution room in Riverbend’s men’s prison ready to die,” he starts by saying, adding:

“I had already made peace with myself. I had told people that they loved me, that they supported me and that they stood by me over the years that I was grateful to them. I had also told people that they were in the room and that they were there to witness my execution that sent me away from them with love and kindness”.

“Several days later, I woke up alone in a hospital, confused and in pain. There hasn't been a single moment since that night when you haven't felt pain. My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still have trouble talking. And pain is not just physical. I feel pain in my mind and in my soul”, reads.

“I hadn’t thought about life beyond that night and I feel deeply hurt by the incompetence that put me in this terrible situation,” he says, saying that he is recovering, but “improving is not the same as being well” and adding that he is “looking for an explanation for what happened.”.

Remember that, on September 30, the day he was to be executed, Christa Pike remained awake, spoke and sang with the spiritual guide after the start of the drug administration and, after the first dose, continued to move and breathe audibly.

According to witnesses, Pike was alive and making noises even after the second attempt at lethal injection, being transported by ambulance from prison.

The inmate was hospitalized for almost two weeks. The doctors even declared brain death, however, Pike became conscious and spoke again the next day.

“ We had understood that Christa was in brain death and that life support would be removed the next day,” lawyer Randy Spivey said at a press conference at the time, revealing after that “for everyone’s shock, Christa woke up and started talking.”

Pike was eventually discharged and transferred back to prison.
