“ A administration of the national register found that unauthorised persons obtained illegal access, in particular to names, addresses and CPR numbers (equivalent to the social security number) of around 8,8 million registered persons”, according to a statement.

An investigation is under way, but at this stage the authors of this intrusion have not yet been identified, according to the same source.

They have obtained this access through the authorised access of a Danish company which has now been revoked.

On Friday, the administration was informed of an “anomaly” in the system “during the month of September” and, during the weekend, it was possible to determine the amount of data obtained, says the ministry.

“ This is an extremely serious incident,” said Christina Egelund, quoted in the statement.

“ Together with all the authorities involved, we are evaluating the total size of the incident,” he added.

Following this data leak, the administration announced that it had implemented measures to avoid repetition of similar cases.

The national register contains data of 11 million people and includes information about people who have died and others who have left the country.

People who benefit from address and name protection are not affected by data leak, has also clarified the government.
