Russian attacks cause 24 deaths, including 18 in residential building

Several Russian attacks against Ukraine made at least 24 deaths, including 18 in the same residential building hit by a missile in Prylouky, in the north of the country, according to a new stocktaking of the Ukrainian authorities released today.

Jornalists of the French news agency AFP deployed at the scene reported having seen emergency services looking for victims between the building debris and removing bodies. At least 55 people were injured, including seven children, specified emergency services.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today indicated that 18 people died in the building in Prylouky, including four children.

“ The Russians know very well that they are reaching common cities, everyday life ", lamented.

Referring to this last wave of bombings against the country, which has been fighting since February 2022 against the Russian invasion, Zelensky denounced “one of the most ignoble attacks: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistics”, harder to intercept, and drones sent against 12 regions.

“ One of the main targets was our energy infrastructure,” said the Ukrainian Head of State.

The approach to winter is a fear of repeating last year's scenario, when Russia has incessantly bombarded energy facilities, sometimes leaving millions of homes in the dark and without heating. There have already been restrictions on energy consumption in Kiev.

Zelensky, who has asked the allies for more systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, has also reported two deaths in Oleksandrya and so many others in Krementchouk, cities in central Ukraine. Two other people were killed in Kiev, according to Ukrainian leader.

In Prylouky, emergency services managed to help 15 people, including one child. During the day the searches between the debris of the residential building hit continued.

The Ukrainian army had also triggered a ballistic missile alert in Kiev, where an AFP journalist heard explosions all night.

In Moscow, the Ministry of Defence stated, for its part, that the Russian army hit, particularly in Kiev and the capital region, Prylouky and Krementchouk, factories that assemble and store cruise missiles, in particular the Flamingo of Ukrainian manufacture, and long-range drones.

The Ukrainian President had warned on the eve of the risk of a Russian “massive attack” against the capital, which has been the target of attacks day and night for weeks. The attacks target, among other targets, warehouses, logistics facilities and bridges.

The Ukrainian authorities accuse Russia of often seeking to destroy the infrastructure, given the inability to advance on the front almost five years after the Kremlin war began.

The Russian attacks recently reached two of Kiev's main bridges and on Tuesday local operator DTEK imposed restrictions on electricity distribution after attacks on energy installations.

The succession of alerts affects economic activity, with the population being urged to leave the workplace to protect themselves.

The city of Zaporijia (center) was also targeted during the night: a “transport infrastructure” was attacked, highlighted the head of the local military administration, Mykhailo Semikine, without giving further details.

Russia claimed, for its part, an “directed” attack on a bridge over the Dniepre River, ensuring that it is used by Ukrainian forces.

The Russian military offensive in Ukrainian territory, launched on 24 February 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939–1945).

Ukraine has been counting on financial aid and weapons from Western allies since Russia invaded the country.

The attacks have been intensifying in recent months on both sides of the front, making an increasing number of civilian victims, and negotiations between the two sides are at a standstill.
