Ualex Baena's late goal today allowed Atlético Madrid to win 1-0 at Espanyol Stadium and press the leader FC Barcelona, who visits Betis on the ninth day of the Spanish Football League.
The Spanish international advance secured three precious points to the ‘colconeros’ by scoring the only goal of the match at 89 minutes, with a shot placed from outside the area, after being requested by the Argentinean Julián Alvarez, following a rapid counterattack of visitors.
Atlético de Madrid reduced the delay for Barcelona to only two points and isolated itself in the second place of La Liga, leaving the company of Betis, third ranked, which on Wednesday won FC Porto, by 3-2, for the Champions League, and today receives the two champions in title and leader of the competition.
