ANDd statements to the agency Lusa, Pedro Duarte explained that the normal functioning of the Lieutenant Secondary School – Colonel Adam Carrapatoso was affected, with an interruption of the school activities due to the accumulation of water in containers that are temporarily replacing the classrooms.
“ Classes were suspended this Wednesday for students from the 5th to the 12th year, who are temporarily taking container lessons due to requalification works and who have been completely flooded (...) now it is necessary to clean and think that Thursday everything will be normalized ", said the social democrat mayor.
On Tuesday afternoon, the heavy rain also affected other municipal equipment, such as the gymnastics pavilion, the palace where municipal social services operate, among others.
According to Pedro Duarte, “now is the time to clean up and restore normality in the city of Vila Nova de Foz Côa.”.
The mayor also said that he is unaware of other losses, particularly agricultural ones, because we are still in the process of lifting and assessing the situation.
This situation has also flooded the autocross track that has been scheduled for 16-18 days to receive a European race, and it is now necessary to recompose and put it in conditions of access to pilot cars.
In the cleaning actions are committed municipal services, volunteer firefighters and GNR.
