O coordinator of BE, José Manuel Pureza, today asked for clarifications about the removal of the Secretary-General from the Ministry of Internal Administration, considering “a little embarrassing” the succession of “cases and messes” in that ministry.

“It’s a little embarrassing all this, a ministry like the Ministry of Internal Affairs [...] be the scene of a permanent novel of cases, of messes, of situations that degrade political life, degrade democracy,” he said.

The coordinator of the Left Bank spoke to journalists on this subject in the margins of submitting a complaint to the Ombudsman about the error in the calculation of pensions, which led to close to three thousand being fixed above the amount laid down in the law.

José Manuel Pureza said that the Minister of Internal Administration has “this image of someone who decides, often not scrupulously complying with the procedures that are necessary” and “accumulates situations of confusion, of disturbance”.

“The Left Block naturally thinks that it is necessary that in Parliament, immediately, all the clarifications should be made, in this case through these two figures who are the Minister of Internal Administration and the former Secretary-General of the Ministry. But more than anything, what we want is that this succession of situations that undermine democracy, the institutions, that end once and for all”, he defended.

The coordinator of BE argued that “what democracy requires is that there should be cabal clarifications” and indicated that the party will contribute to this through parliamentary representation.

The bloquist insisted that Luís Neves “is not able to be a minister”, but Purez refused to “associate to the procession of disrupted a procession of resignations”.

“Minister Luís Neves has been the protagonist of a series of situations of confusion, of confusion, and, therefore, has long since ceased to have these conditions to govern a ministry as sensitive as is the Ministry of Internal Administration rigorously, with full capacity, without being permanently stained by suspensions, on charges”, he criticized.

On Monday, the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) announced that the secretary-general of that ministry, Ricardo Carrilho, ceased functions by determination of Minister Luís Neves.

Later, the now former MAI Secretary-General considered the dismissal “an act of retaliation” and accused the Minister of Internal Administration of “illegal pressures” and “an asphyxiating political interference”.

Following these statements, the minister issued a statement in which he justified the resignation of the Secretary-General with “break of trust” resulting from situations, including some “of particular gravity”, that “committed the functioning of the services”.

Luís Neves accused Ricardo Carrilho of having in recent months “a permanent attitude of confrontation, seeking, by all means, to harm the functioning of SIRESP” and, “in full time of fires, extinguished the Operations and Management Center (COG) of SIRESP – the “nevralgic center” of the emergency communications network – without the protection, without presenting alternative solutions”.
