O Benfica added, on Tuesday night, the second consecutive defeat in the European Handball League round, losing on the visit to Holstebro, Denmark, by 32-31.
After the defeat on the first day of reception to Torrelavega, Benfica had ahead of him what would be the most complicated task of Group F of the European Handball League. The incarnates went to the Danish field of TT Holstebro on this second journey, and ended up a new outlet in this European competition.
Despite the favoritism of the Nordics, the match was quite balanced from the outset and proof of this is the 15-15 that occurred at the interval. Tobias Thulin was the great figure on the side of the Lisboners, who, several times, managed to stop the Danes from running on the scoreboard and kept Benfica connected to the game.
However, and since the goalkeeper could not stop everything, the Nordics fired for a very big difference, in a duel that was also marked by Gustavo Capdeville's reunion with the Lisbon team.
Tomas Bogojevic and Alejandro Barbeito were the best markers of the meeting, with seven tries each. Joachim Als Lyng, Emil Gronbech Hansen and Emil Sondergaard Hansen scored five goals for Holstebro each.
Accounts made, Benfica is third in Group F, with zero points, such as Karvina, and the four of Holstebro and Torrelavega, which occupy the clearance positions for the phase to be eliminated. On Tuesday (17:45), Benfica visits the Czechs of Karvina.
Maritime makes history in Europe
Also this Tuesday, and in Madeira, the Maritime won the first victory, against the Spanish of the Bidasoa Irun, for 40-32. After a major exhibition in front of Limoges, the islanders won their first victory in the main phase of a European competition.
Paulo Fidalgo's commandos, who are being one of the surprises in this championship start-up, proved that they have European fiber and the gap was already seven goals and that was enough to maintain the triumph in the complementary stage. For this historic triumph much contributed Delcio Pina, with 10 goals.
After the accounts, the Seaman rose to the second place of Group B, with two points, tied with the Bidasoa Irun (3rd) and two points from Limoges (1st). On Tuesday (19:45), the Madeirans receive the Icelandic from Hafnarfjordur.
Holy Waters falls in Germany
The most difficult task had the Holy Waters, which lost copiously before the Germans of the Flensburg-Handewitt, by 36-22. The Mayan emblem received the Germanic emblem, a club that will host international Francisco and Martim Costa next season.
The Portuguese group could never take the reins of the match and the gap was already eight goals (10-18). In the complementary stage, the Portuguese tried to give another replica, but defeat was defined.
James Sousa’s five goals were not enough to avoid further defeat of the Mayans. Aymeric Minne was the right one on the date, with six tries.
The Holy Waters follows in the fourth place with a point, like the Buzau, now the three of the leader Flensburg and one of the Granollers, next opponent on Tuesday (19:45).
