A Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Condeixa-a-Nova, in the district of Coimbra, launched a public tender for the construction of a new barracks outside the center of the village, in an investment of four million euros (ME).
In statements to the agency Lusa, the CEO, Jorge Gariso, explained that this “is a need for many years already”.
“ The capacity for the vehicles we have, our fire department, which is growing, begins to be reduced our current facilities ", justified.
The responsible also supported the need for a new building with the current location of the fire station, in the center of Condeixa-a-Nova, and its antiquity.
“ In matters of accessibility, of operationality, of exit, sometimes, at this moment, we have to cross the village, it is not better. And, on the other hand, we are talking about a barracks that is over 40 years old, with its structural problems, repairs”, he said.
The announcement of the launch of the public tender for the construction of the new barracks was published in Diário da República last Friday.
The undertaking has a basic price of EUR 4 million, without VAT, and an execution period of 18 months.
Jorge Gariso said that the new barracks will be located “at the north exit” of the village, on a plot, which was acquired by the association “more than ten years ago”, whose “accessibility is better”.
“ We are talking about a new building, built from scratch and adapted to the reality of our fire department, with greater capacity to have our vehicles guarded, a better comfort for our firefighters, with camarats with other conditions ", highlighted.
Jorge Gariso also highlighted the support of the House of Condeixa-a-Nova for the implementation of the project, stating that the association alone could not take this step “if it were not for the help of the municipality”.
In addition to “helping and taking over the contract procedures”, the municipality finances the association for the payment of the loan to the bank under a protocol.
With investment in the new barracks to be taken over by the firefighters of Condeixa-a-Nova, the next step is an application for Community funds, also with the support of the municipality.
“ The maximum funding we can go, which would be very good, goes to 85% of the project value ", said Jorge Gariso.
The deadline for the submission of tenders for the construction of the new barracks is 8 November until 17:00.
