O president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) of Brazil, Kassio Nunes Marques, asserted this Sunday that there is no evidence of international interference in the elections.
“ Let's talk about the current moment. So far, we have no concrete evidence of international interference”, he said, quoted by the Metropolis.
He pointed out that “when there is a conflict, a country can suspend diplomatic activities.”.
“ The indication of our teams that monitor the risks does not point to any kind of risk. We have no report from the Federal Police (PF), the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN), which points out any kind of risk. We did not receive any concrete clues”, added.
It should be noted that PF opened an investigation to investigate the alleged interference of the United States in the general elections of the country, according to the director-general of the corporation, Andrei Rodrigues.
“ We've received representation from the Union's Attorney General suggesting the investigation of external interference. He was referred to the Intelligence Directorate to begin the investigation. It is an ongoing investigation, a prior procedure”, said Rodrigues, in a press conference.
The request sent to PF on Thursday by the Union's Attorney General – the ministry responsible for defending the interests of the Brazilian government in the courts – was based on a report by The Guardian.
The publication revealed that Donald Trump's presidency spent a million dollars on civil society groups opposing the Supreme Court in Brazil. The funds were intended to finance the project “Fighting the Deliberative Litigance and Censorship in Brazil”, so they classified it as abuse of judicial power and censorship by the Brazilian Supreme Court. According to The Guardian, the initiative integrates a set of 43 concessions that add up to $16.9 million from the US Department of State Human Rights and Democracy Fund.
Even today, the Director-General of PF reiterated that the investigation is still under way on a preliminary basis, without formal investigation, but that there is already “an ongoing investigation”. Rodrigues also reiterated that PF did not identify concrete elements that indicate risk at the US Embassy or other diplomatic representations in Brasilia.
On Friday, Brazil’s embassy in the United States announced suspension of consular services and the embassy in the country for a “security issue”, which mobilized Brazil’s security forces.
“ We did not prove any concrete element that would point us to any effective risk against any embassy. The collected elements do not indicate anything concrete, no plans we have identified ", completed.
