Nat the same time, the local population received instructions to seek shelter due to the “risk of falling objects”.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported, in a statement, that the take-off of Spanish aircraft occurred after surveillance radars last night detected “two air objects” in Ukrainian airspace near the river border with Romania.
The “two objects” did not enter Romanian airspace and the alert was withdrawn early in the morning.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Romania has experienced more than 150 attacks on the Ukrainian side of the common border of 650 kilometres and 49 unauthorized raids in Romanian airspace.
Since the beginning of the year, 30 violations of Romanian airspace have been recorded.
Four drones were shot down, one by Spanish fighters last August 16th.
In late May, two people were injured when a Russian drone hit a building in Galati, a Romanian city near the Ukrainian border.
