O secretary-General of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, today lamented the shooting attack in Krakow, Poland, which caused six deaths and about a dozen wounded, including a Portuguese citizen, expressing solidarity with the Polish people.
“ It was with deep sadness that I received the news of the attack in Krakow, Poland, and that caused the loss of several lives and several wounded, including a Portuguese citizen”, said the socialist leader, quoted in a note sent to the Lusa agency.
José Luís Carneiro presented his “most heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims” and left a “word of proximity” to the Portuguese, aged 74, wounded in this shooting, wishing him, as well as the others injured, a “fast and full recovery”.
“ No circumstance can justify such violence against innocent lives. The defense of human life, peace and security must always unite us”, said the Secretary-General of the PS, expressing his solidarity with the people of Krakow and the Polish people.
At least six people died and several were injured in the centre of Krakow, Poland, after a man had opened fire indiscriminately against passers-by and had been neutralized by the police.
One of the people injured by the shooter ended up dead, raising the provisional swing of the shooting to six dead and about a dozen wounded, announced the police.
Of Polish nationality, the suspect was neutralized by the police, shot and transported to the hospital.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk classified the incident as a “tragic shooting” and announced that he will travel with the Minister of the Interior to the crime scene, whose motives are not yet known.
For his part, the President of the Republic, Karol Nawrocki, expressed “a great concern” and asked for explanations about the circumstances of the attack, stressing that the security of Poles is an absolute priority.
Police found other weapons and a large amount of ammunition in the suspect's car, Katarzyna Cislo, from Krakow police, to the TVN24 information channel, requiring the man to be 24 years old.
Poland is in a state of high alert after a series of attacks with white weapons in October, which Tusk denounced as part of a “cult of violence” powered by social networks.
