O qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said that the efforts of the US administration and “sense voices” in Tehran prevented an escalation of the conflict with Iran and the return to war on a large scale.
“ Honestly, in recent weeks we have been following the situation and working together with our colleagues in the US administration, who demonstrate a very genuine desire to find a way to contain the situation and reduce tension. Indeed, thanks to them and also some sensible voices in Tehran, we managed to prevent the situation from getting out of hand,” said Qatar’s chief of diplomacy on Friday night during an event at Oxford Union in the UK.
According to a video released today by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al Ansari, the governor stated that the results of the mid-term elections in the United States, in which Republicans were defeated, “may affect their policies in the future, but not their intentions.”.
“ Like any other country, there are always people who represent the voice of reason and others who have different opinions and take tougher positions. But I think that, at least for now, and judging from our contacts with the US administration, intentions remain, even after the elections, as well as the desire to take steps to find a solution,” he said.
The Prime Minister also considered that “never” there will be “a perfect peace agreement”, so one should not simply “wait for that moment” and, therefore, “no longer achieve a good agreement that will reduce tension and stop this escalation”.
“ Our efforts continue. Maybe they're busy with other things right now. The activity is not as intense as a few days ago, but we hope that these efforts will continue. In fact, our contacts were not and will not be interrupted,” said the person responsible.
These statements coincided with the confirmation, on Friday, by President Donald Trump, that U.S. forces carried out further limited attacks against Iran, aiming at an anti-aircraft defense system that – he said – was destroyed within minutes.
The Iranian state media reported that two explosions were heard in the Suza area, on the island of Qeshm, located in the Strait Strategy of Ormuz, an important maritime route for world oil transport.
Donald Trump classified the military operation as “minor”, without need when it occurred and what the damage caused.
