At the end of the commemorative ceremony of the implementation of the Republic, in Praça do Município, in Lisbon, the leader of the PCP and councilman of the capital, João Ferreira, classified as “contradictory” the speech previously given by the President of the Republic.

From its perspective, the present situation “requires a break with policies that are destroying the National Health Service, which caused the crisis in housing and which created a level of inequality in the country where the rich are increasingly rich and a large majority of the population faces the unstoppable increase in the cost of living”.

“Now, we cannot think that attacking the causes of the problems – as the President of the Republic said that it was necessary to do – and finding the new solutions to these problems is always called for understanding among those who brought us to these same problems. This is not possible”, said João Ferreira.

For the leader of the CFP, “it is contradictory for the President of the Republic to appeal to an understanding, in particular between the PS and the PSD, an understanding which he himself is at the root of the problems we face today”.

On the other hand, the co-voice and parliamentary leader of the Free, Isabel Mendes Lopes, said that political understandings “must be made based on democratic values”.

“ This is not achieved with understandings with an extreme right that is not interested in ensuring values such as equality and then looking for support on the other side of Parliament”, he pointed out, in an allusion to the line followed by the PSD/CDS executive.

The understandings, advocated Isabel Mendes Lopes, “are done with those who share the same democratic space and the same love for the Republic, but that is not what we have been watching from the Government”.

In turn, the coordinator of Left Block, José Manuel Pureza, considered that the President of the Republic endorsed a political line with which he is in disagreement and argued that “the only convergence that matters is the one that improves people’s lives”.

“ A political convergence to the center, every time it materializes, is an open door to radicalization to the right ", warned.

José Manuel Pureza said after one of the promises of the Republic is equality.

“ We can invent discourses on divergences and convergences, but what counts are the policies of equality on this day of the Republic,” he said, before addressing “the second promise” of the current regime born on 5 October 1910: “A better common life for all”.

“ But today, what we have is a better life for only some, who accumulate crushing and obscene profits. Being a Republican is choosing policies that meet the majority”, he said.

The Secretary-General Socialist Party, in turn, began by commending the intervention of the President of the Republic and sought to emphasize the idea that the PS defends political stability and, as such, would never allow the country to fall into a political crisis in the current situation.

On the feasibility of the state budget proposal for 2027, said: “We have assurances that the government will review the Constitution with the PS.”.

“The Constitution defends values that we are highlighting today, namely the right to housing, the right to health, the right to decent work, the right to a dignified living condition. The Constitution is a concrete translation of common life options and our common home that makes our national community want to remain a qualified democracy, to respond to decent living conditions for people,” he said.

José Luís Carneiro then changed the theme and launched a challenge to PSD, which last week in Parliament announced an agreement with the Arrive for the review of the rental law.

“I demand that the Government let fall into the Assembly of the Republic the agreement that it made with the Aquira. An agreement that particularly launches older and younger people in conditions of grave precariousness as to income and the safety of having a home to carry out their future life project. This is a fundamental requirement”, he said.

The Enough criticised the speech of António José Seguro, classifying him as “more of the same”, for appealing to the union of PSD and PS and “send messages” to Enough.

“The speech ended with the messages of the usual, talking about more extremist movements or parties, etc., in the background is more the same, because when we talk about joining the parties with the purpose of the good of the population, we end up always talking about the same two parties, which is the PS and the PSD”, said the deputy of the Aquida Rui Paulo Sousa, in statements to journalists at the end of the celebration of the 116th anniversary of the Implantation of the Republic, in Praça do Município, in Lisbon.

Pointing out that PSD and PS “already joined together” to approve the next State Budget, Rui Paulo Sousa added that he hoped that “at least for once, when they spoke in a union of the parties, they would talk about the union of the three main parties, and not talk in the background always the two of the same custom”.

“ We are always away when it is time for the decision, because when we talk about trying alternative measures, measures that have gone beyond the usual of the last 50 years, we are talking about Enough, which is the only party to have presented measures that are really different from the usual”, he said.

As for the “revealed” of the President of the Republic, Rui Paulo Sousa pointed out that when he “begins to talk about understandings and then ends up talking about extremes and parties that are not well in agreement with democracy”, he ends up pushing away Enough.

A IL criticised the speech of the President of the Republic in commemoration of the implementation of the Republic, for defending the need for reforms, but commending an understanding between the PSD and the PS regarding the next state budget.

“ It was an interesting speech in which the President of the Republic says what the Liberal Initiative has been saying for years, that we need to move forward, we need to reform, we have to get to the root of the problems in order to solve them, we cannot carry on with Band-Aids”, he said to the journalists, IL Angélique da Teresa, at the end of the commemoration ceremony of the 116th anniversary of the implementation of the Republic, in Praça do Município, in Lisbon.

The Liberal Member also added that hopes “that the prime minister has listened with all his attention” the speech of António José Seguro and “who has taken the message to the government, so that it no longer has propaganda measures and that in fact begins to solve the problems of the country”.

“It was a pity, then, in the speech of the President of the Republic, that we heard the opposite, that it is commending the understanding between the PS and the PSD regarding a budget that is not even known and, therefore, effectively, we will not be able to reform anything,” he said.

O PSDfinally, praised the insurance speechBut he refused the ER's challenge to break his agreement with Enough to review the lease law.

“ Also something with which the PSD sees itself a lot, which is the dimension of dialogue. I give very concrete examples: last week, for example, we had the PS announce that it will abstain in the vote on the State Budget for next year; on the other hand, on a very important sectorial matter, in the lease, an understanding was possible with the Enough to make it possible”, said the Vice-President of the Social Democratic bench, Alexandre Poço.

Faced with the challenge of the PS so that the PSD will end this agreement with the Enough to review the lease law, Alexandre Poço countered that this position of the socialist Secretary-General, José Luís Carneiro, is contradictory to the content of the speech today delivered by the head of state.

“The PSD will continue to negotiate with parties that are at every moment available to approve, discuss and improve government proposals. We're not going to play this game now, we're not going to talk to this one, and we're not going to get into the logic of, in order to approve with that party, we have to give up the other party. It would be the opposite of the words of the President of the Republic,” said the Social Democratic leader.

Alexandre He stressed that, in his speech, António José Seguro “just told the country, but also the political parties, that it is important that they leave our trenches and that there is the ability to talk to each other”.

Insurance calls for “lasting solutions” and the end of the “crew culture”

The President of the Republic today called for a new political culture of inter-party commitments for several legislatures, defended the importance of political stability and welcomed the rapprochement between the PSD/CDS-PP and PS government on the State Budget.
