“Christian Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus? It does not seem fair to take sides...”

“It’s a sensitive theme in my country. Cristiano is a legend, one of the five best players ever. Already Jesus is the selector, a respected coach with a lot of experience. Honestly, it does not seem fair to take sides with one or the other”, explained Sergio Conceição, not wanting to make any more comments. 

Cristiano Ronaldo, refer to himself, abandoned the stage of the selection that took place in Copenhagen on 30 September, on the eve of the duel with Denmark, for the League of Nations, in conflict with the selectioner Jorge Jesus. 

Waiting for disciplinary decision

Precisely a week ago, the Council of Discipline of the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed the establishment of a disciplinary procedure for Cristiano Ronaldo, at the same time decreed the preventive and non-automatic suspension of the captain of the national team for an indefinite time. 

“ Instigation of disciplinary proceedings to Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, by deliberation of the Non-Professional Section of 9 October 2026, having as its object the establishment of possible disciplinary relevance of the facts involved on 7 October 2026”, could be read in the official note. 

“ Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which it was subject until the date of establishment, the non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and attributed urgent nature to the process ", it also advanced the CD. 

Despite the urgent nature, the disciplinary measure that Ronaldo will have to comply with has not yet been announced, and the regulation points to a period of suspension of one to six months, as well as the imposition of a fine. 

However, Cristiano Ronaldo may have the extenuating fact that he admitted, in a statement, that he made a mistake by leaving the stage of national selection unilaterally, also making an apology to his colleagues. 

“ The consequence of my act must be evaluated and punished by the Portuguese Football Federation. I understand the punishment must not be extenuating. I'm not just any player, I'm a team captain and that's an aggravation. I said I'm sorry, but I know that attitudes have to have consequences. Whoever is in football as I am knows that, regardless of the status of each one, the rules are equal for all ", admitted CR7. 

If the Disciplinary Board applies the minimum penalty and reduces the sentence to half, Cristiano Ronaldo may only serve 15 days of suspension. If the maximum penalty is imposed, the reduction to half will be three months.

Proença says that CR7 is “fundamental part”

Despite being on a collision course with Jorge Jesus, Pedro Proença believes that Cristiano Ronaldo may return to the selection soon, reinforcing this will on Friday afternoon in Madeira. 

In the margins of the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Portuguese Football Federation, Funchal City Council and the Madeira Football Association, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation stressed that it is time for everyone to sit at the table and find solutions for the return of CR7 to be completed under the best conditions. 

“ I think everything has already been said by our captain, everything has already been said by our national selector, everything has already been said even by the Portuguese Football Federation. We're all together. We started a process with 25 players. What we all want is to win the League of Nations and count on everyone. Of course, our captain Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the fundamental pieces to achieve this,” Pedro Proença told the journalists outside Funchal City Hall. 

“Certainly Ronaldo is able to return. This has already been demonstrated by his own intention in the letter he wrote, it has already been said by the national selector, the Portuguese Football Federation has also given its opinion and, therefore, what I have said is that now is the moment of tranquility, to sit at the table and to find the good solutions ", finished the maximum leader of FPF.
