O case between Cristiano Ronaldo and Jorge Jesus hasn't stopped generating opinions and comments from former football players, including some who shared locker room with the Portugal selection jersey seven, as was the case of Monday.

“ Coach has to come over and apologize, or he's gonna end up fired. You have to go public and say ‘Listen, I misjudged this situation’, started by saying Rio Ferdinand, former player of Manchester United and colleague of the Portuguese captain.

And that's when Joel Beya, sports commentator and assistant presence on the podcast Presents River, pointed to the effects it is having on the social networks of the Portuguese selection, namely on Instagram, that things went to another level.

“Portugal has already lost two million followers in his Instagram account, from the moment Cristiano Ronaldo left the internship,” shot Beya, being interrupted by Rio Ferdinand: “And it will be 10 million by tomorrow if all this continues like this,” fired the former central defense.

The former English international still commented on how all this could have been prevented and even made comparisons between Jorge Jesus and Roberto Martínez.

“ I think all this could have been stopped if there had been good communication skills. I said the same thing during the World Cup with Roberto Martínez, and I think the same thing with this coach now. You have to sit down with Cristiano Ronaldo and tell him ‘this is what I want to do, and if you don’t want to be a part of it, then tell me, but this is how it’s going to be’, Rio Ferdinand continued.

“ He still has a role to play, I believe that. The question here is whether to be a titular, enter as an impact substitute in the games or even to start some meetings and be an alternate in others? That's the conversation you need to have and then you just have to do what you said. These coaches are paid to manage a team, but they are also paid to manage people”, he concluded.

After the Portugal-Norway, Jorge Jesus gave clarifications

Jorge Jesus fulfilled the promised and took advantage, this Sunday, of the press conference that followed the triumph conquered over Norway, by 2-1, at the Dragon Stadium (which was worth the clearance for the final rooms of the League of Nations), to ‘put the points in the is’ regarding the controversial abandonment of Cristiano Ronaldo to the main selection of Portugal.

“ For me, at first, it was never an affair. It was something I thought was normal as a coach. Having a player with the symbol that he is for the country and for the selection... There are principles as coach that are non-negotiable, but since there was nothing special in terms of what is my authority, for me, Cris at the next call will be, if you are playing at Al Nassr, a convocable player, if he wants to return to the selection ", said.

“ You cannot charge, in my opinion, a one-year friendship in a situation you cannot understand. Just because he did it, he created himself – and probably because it's a symbol – this whole problem of getting in, warming up, not getting in... How many of you got warmed up today and didn't come in? Is there a problem? Nope. Cris is different, it's the symbol. But it is a problem”, he continued.

“ For me, it wasn't a problem. If Cris wants to play Al Nassr, he'll be in. We spoke before this call and we can talk before the next one, but it is Cris who will decide (...). Don't go through me. To have an agreement with two people, it is necessary for both people to talk and wake up ", completed.

Still, the national selector left a certainty: “I don’t apologize to anyone. The problem that created all this was that the player was warming up. I put the burden on the decision and what happened. But apologize for what? Who? That's a lie. Sorry about what? What was the theme to apologize?”.

“It’s an egolantric.” Will Cristiano Ronaldo's return divide the selection?

António Simões and Gilberto Madail argue that the Portuguese Football Federation cannot yield to the “will” of Cristiano Ronaldo, while Henrique Callisto calls for an “understanding” with Jorge Jesus and Pedro Proença.
