A leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Mariana Leitão, today stated that the resignation of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI) by Minister Luís Neves represents an “unprecedented degrade of the institutions”, for which the Prime Minister is responsible, “unable to make decisions”.

In a message on the X, the president of IL stressed that she demanded “on several occasions the resignation of Luís Neves to safeguard the functioning of the institutions and thus preserve liberal democracy”.

“ We are witnessing an unprecedented degradation of our institutions because of a Prime Minister unable to make decisions”, says Mariana Leitão.

The SGMAI, dismissed today by the minister, considered the dismissal “an act of retaliation” and accused Luís Neves of “illegal pressures” and “an asphyxiating political interference”.

“ This exemption was an act of retaliation, and a warning to all those who contribute daily to the action of the State: in the MAI of Luís Neves, and in the current Government, who complies with the law and protects public money is punished; who protects the system, and feeds the inaction, is preserved ", writes Ricardo Carrilho in an opinion article in the Express.

“ In two decades of first-line public service, I have never been subjected to so many illegitimate pressures and political interference as suffocating as in the period in which I performed the functions of Secretary General under the current tutelage of Luís Neves ", writes.

Contacted by Lusa, Ricardo Carrilho reaffirms “intally everything” what is in the article in the Express, entitled: “The dictatorship of incompetence: how respect for the Law and technical merit have become targets to be slaughtered in the Internal Administration”.

It also advances to Lusa who has not yet decided whether to take “some steps” as a result of a process that it considers illegal.

Minister Luís Neves justified the dismissal with the “reorganization of the General Secretariat, with the preparation of a new organic structure and procedures appropriate to the responsibilities of the ministry, printing a new orientation to the management of the service”.

For the post of Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Administration, Luís Neves appointed today the GNR Major General Nuno Parreira da Silva.

Lusa asked for a reaction from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but so far she has not received any response.

Ricardo Carrilho's removal takes place about four months after the assistant secretary-general of the MAI, António Pombeiro, resigned from office after the renaming of General Paulo Viegas Nunes to the leadership of the company that manages the SIRESP is known.
