U22-year-old British citizen was arrested this Tuesday by an alleged link to the attempted attack on the British military base of RAF Fairford, where several American bombers were stationed.
The anti-terrorism police arrested the man in the Borough of Westminster area in London because he was suspected of participating in the preparation of a possible terrorist attack last week.
According to The Independent, searches were also conducted on a property in the same area.
Six suspects have already been arrested and released on bail after three suspicious vans have been stopped near the Gloucestershire Air Base on Sunday, September 27.
National coordinator of the Anti-Terrorist Police, Vicki Evans, said that “this remains an ongoing investigation and our specialized teams continue to follow several lines of investigation into the circumstances surrounding events near the RAF Fairford.”.
A week ago, five men several people were arrested in the vicinity of the British Royal Air Force base (RAF) on suspicion of participation in a terrorist plan. All were subsequently released on bail during the investigation.
The British authorities linked the incident to Tehran. Although Iran has denied any involvement, the country has already stated that it considers any basis used to attack its territory as a legitimate target.
After the incident, this Sunday, the U.S. Air Force repatriated its bombers stationed at RAF Fairford military air base. These are believed to have been taken to their bases of origin.
The measure comes at a time when American President Donald Trump is assessing the options for his war against Iran — including new attacks — despite his initial promises that the campaign would last only a few weeks.
