O douro subregional action programme (SAP) proposes a set of 52 projects and an estimated budget of 254 million euros to protect this territory against serious rural fires, today announced the Douro Intermunicipal Community (CIM).
According to the CIM, the PSA aims to be a joint strategy “for a more protected and resilient territory”.
With a set of 52 projects and an estimated budget of 254 million euros, the Douro PSA translates “a strategic focus on preventing rural fires, reducing risk and building a more resilient territory, prepared to face the challenges of the coming decades.”.
The CIM said, in a statement, that this is a “strategic planning instrument” that results from a joint and articulated work between the intermunicipal community, the 19 municipalities that aggregates, the Agency for Integrated Rural Fire Management (AGIF) and the other entities that are part of the Sub-Regional Commission for Integrated Rural Fire Management, bringing together “technical knowledge, experience and territorial priorities in defining an integrated sub-region-wide intervention strategy”.
The Douro PSA includes a set of “structural projects aimed at fuel management, the enhancement of rural spaces and the landscape, the strengthening of defense networks and the awareness of communities, promoting an approach that goes beyond the administrative boundaries of each municipality and favours concerted action on a sub-regional scale”.
“ Through this joint strategy, the entities that are part of the sub-regional committee make a common commitment to the protection of populations, the safeguarding of natural resources and the enhancement of the territory, promoting a more active and sustainable management of the landscape and contributing to the prevention of serious rural fires,” said the inter-municipal community.
The Douro Sub-Regional Integrated Fire Management Commission approved on Thursday, at a meeting in Sabrosa, district of Vila Real, the submission of the proposal of the sub-regional Douro action programme to the Regional Commission for Integrated Management of Northern Rural Fires (CRGIFR Norte) for the assessment and issuance of its opinion.
CIM Douro aggregates the municipalities of Alijó, Armamar, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Lamego, Mesão Frio, Moimenta da Beira, Murça, Penedono, Peso da Régua, Sabrosa, Santa Marta de Penaguião, São João da Pesqueira, Sernancellhe, Tabuço, Tarouca, Torre de Moncorvo, Vila Nova de Foz Côa and Vila Real.
