Athe interim elections for the Assembly of Freguesia de Ferreira do Alentejo, district of Beja, are scheduled for 10 January 2027, eight months after the president of the junta has resigned from office, was announced today.

The decision is contained in an order of the Minister of Economics and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, dated 06 this month and published today in Diário da República, consulted by the agency Lusa.

The mid-term elections are scheduled, it can be read, after the chairman of the parish council “to communicate that, following the resignation of all the elected and alternates of the most voted list of the respective Freguesia Assembly, this body lacks operating conditions”.

According to the document, the date chosen for the elections aims to “ensure the groups of voters the possibility of forming lists, fulfilling all the formalities foreseen”.

And it aims to allow “political parties the possibility of forming coalitions for election purposes,” the government said.

According to the minister's order, the choice of 10 January 2027 for the performance of the ballot also aims to ensure “the effective exercise of the rights, freedoms and guarantees of political participation, even if this justifies the disregard of the deadlines” legally fixed.

On 07th, the Secretary of State for Internal Administration, Telmo Correia, appointed an administrative commission to manage the Assembly of Freguesia de Ferreira do Alentejo until the elections.

This committee is based on the “results of the provisional ballot of the last election” and is part of three elements of the most voted lists.

In this way, the managing body is composed of Sandra Albino, of the CDU (PCP-PEV) and resigned president of the parish council, Maria Góis, also of the CDU, and Albano Fialho (PS).

The decision to proceed to new elections in the Junta de Freguesia de Ferreira do Alentejo comes following the resignation of Sandra Albino, in May this year.

At the time, in addition to the president, they also resigned the remaining CDU members in the Freguesia Assembly elected in the local elections of October 2025, claiming political instability.

“ The elect of the PS [four], allied with the only elected of the Aquida, chose to systematically block all the proposals put forward [by the CDU], making any government solution impossible”, said Sandra Albino, at his resignation in May, in an open letter to the population.

At the time, in a statement, the Political Commission of Ferreira do Alentejo do PS recalled that, since November 2025, it advocated the holding of interim elections for the parish “as a solution to the impasse stubbornly caused by the CDU”.

According to the Socialists, the elected president dominated the junta politically and partially and prevented “the Freguesy Assembly from approving a viable executive cast”.

For the upcoming midterm elections, it has already been announced that Nurse Sandra Albino will again be the CDU candidate, advancing the PS with computer engineer João Pedro Alexandre, who replaces the previous list head Albano Fialho.

Enough hasn't officially indicated who will be the party's candidate.

In the local councils of 2025, the CDU reached 991 votes (four terms), the PS ranked second with 961 votes (four terms) and the Arrivo third with 236 votes (one term).
