Elon Musk advances with legal threat to stop documentary
This documentary premiered in September at the Venice International Film Festival and apparently the owner of Tesla and SpaceX was not satisfied at all.
How does the the Hollywood Reporter websiteMusk's lawyer Alex Spiro sent the documentary team a letter that serves as a court notice and, of course, serves as a threat to future legal action.
In his letter to Gibney, Spiro notes that the documentary insinuating that Musk used the Starlink satellite network to influence the 2024 presidential election, which eventually gave Donald Trump the victory.
“ It is warned, before the release [of the documentary], that the insinuation is false, that the material to refute it is public and that it chose not to tell the rest”, writes Spiro, noting that those responsible for ensuring the electoral integrity of several states and cybersecurity investigators refuted the hypothesis that Musk influenced the election results via Starlink.
Musk's lawyer also claims that the documentary “did not start as an investigation but with a conclusion”.
“ Because he refused to display the film, refused to verify the facts with us and refused the witnesses who came to you, we have every reason to believe that [the documentary] contains more allegations about Mr. Musk that you know are false or whose falsehood he chose not to investigate deliberately”You can read it in Spiro's letter. The lawyer also notes that Musk's team tried to establish contact on several occasions during the process of recording the documentary, accusing Alex Gibney of being having “refused to dialogue”.
“ Therefore, we have no choice but to formally notify you of your next ‘work’”, Spiro note. “ Our doors are open if you decide to check the facts with the people who know them. If you do not, we will proceed accordingly.”.
