“ I am very upset and disappointed by the decline over the last few weeks,” Elton John assumes, a ‘legre’ of the pop and I confess to Watford’s adept, a club of which he became owner, in two distinct periods of life.

Sgo Elton John caught, this weekend, everything and everyone by surprise, by publishing a comment in which he did not hide the indignation towards the sports crisis that plagues Watford, a historic English football club for which the very ‘legend’ of pop has always assumed to feed a particular affection.
“ As Watford's lifelong fan, I'm very upset and disappointed by the decline over the last few weeks. I really feel sorry for the other fans who have to see this”, wrote the singer, in reaction to the publication on the heavy defeat suffered before Burnley, on the Vicarage Road, by 0-4.
The 79-year-old artist, remember, owned the emblem that currently plays in the Championship, between 1976 and 1987, and between 1997 and 2002. He later became honorary president, and in 2014 saw his own name being assigned to one of the stadium benches, which houses more than 3,000 supporters.
Within a few minutes, reactions to his position have multiplied, even if there are people asking him to return to the club in an attempt to ‘right him’. One of the most welcomed comments was the signature of Paul Robinson, a former defense who represented the hornets, between 1996 and 2004.
“ When Sir Elton speaks, we all listen! The change should have happened a long time ago. Watford fans, you know what you have to do...”, he shot.
“ They don’t like me telling the truth, but...”
Troy Deeney, one of the most iconic players in his entire history, who counted 140 goals (among them, which would prove decisive for the promotion of the Premier League in 2013 in front of Leicester City) and 36 assists after 419 official matches between 2010 and 2022.
“Watford... They don't like me telling the truth, but the signs are clear, and they've been for months. I feel sorry for the fans who continue to appear, out of loyalty and faith”, wrote the former advanced and current sports commentator of 38-year-old British radio talkSPORT.
How bad is Waford, anyway?
The Watford even entered well, in the new 2026/27 sports season, with consecutive triumphs over Crawley Town (in the inaugural round of the League Cup) and Southampton (on the first round of the Championship), but the moment quickly fell to ground, so that, from then on, it only took a game (against Preston North End).
Two draws followed (before Wrexham and West Ham) and five losses (before Peterborough United, which dictated the elimination of the League Cup, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City, Bristol City and, more recently, Burnely, who plunged him into the maintenance race in the Championship).
In fact, at the moment, the hornets occupy even the 20th place of the second echelon of English football, with only eight points won after nine days, as many as the Portsmouth (which has less one game played) and only one more than the Burnley (which lives immediately below the water line).
