Ocondoms are easy to find and one of the most known and used contraceptive methods. Do you use them correctly? An expert left an alert for some mistakes she might be making. They may end up compromising their effectiveness and putting their health at risk.
“Although high quality, a condom does not protect against all risks if it is not used correctly. There are several common mistakes that people make in relation to condoms” begins by saying Lavanya Kiran, director of obstetrics and gynecology, to the website Only My Health.
5 errors when using condoms
1 – Place after initiation of sexual intercourse
“ It is important to remember that the condom should be placed before any genital contact with the penis, and not just immediately before ejaculation. The preejaculator fluid contains sperm in some cases, and all sexual fluids can transmit infections.”

2- Do not check the expiry date or package
“A torn condom can be the result of the use of an expired or defective product. Make sure to check the expiry date and that the package is not damaged before opening.”
3- Use oil-based lubricants with latex condoms
“ Some substances, such as oils, Vaseline and some creams, may compromise the integrity of the latex that can rip. Water or silicone-based lubricants tend to be more suitable for use with latex condoms.”
4- Use two condoms at once
“ Using two condoms at the same time does not offer double protection. On the contrary, friction resulting from the combination of the two condoms increases the possibility of rupture.”
5- Reuse or remove incorrectly
“It’s a unique product. For adequate protection, a new condom should be placed at each vaginal, anal or oral intercourse. When removing the condom after ejaculation, hold the base to minimize the risk of leaving some amount of semen.”
