Othe United States has temporarily authorized operations related to the sale, delivery, unloading and import of Russian gas oil, including its entry into the US market until April 7, 2027, despite the sanctions imposed on Moscow.
The license of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) allows these operations despite sanctions against Russia, but maintains restrictions on payments through accounts of three financial bodies of the Russian State.
Today, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has ensured that he has agreed with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the immediate supply of more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to markets around the world, including the US.
Trump added that “in addition, depending on the state of its diesel refineries, Russia will then deliver — in the short term — 3,000,000 tonnes of diesel fuel”.
The measure represents a temporary suspension of the United States sanctions which enables trade with Russian diesel to resume, including its importation into the United States.
The authorisation will be valid until 7 April 2027, although it will not allow recovery into accounts of three financial bodies of the Russian State.
The United States banned imports of Russian oil and petroleum products on March 8, 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as part of the sanctions aimed at reducing Moscow's energy income.
The prohibition entered into force immediately, although certain previous contracts were allowed to be settled by 22 April of that year.
The new measure comes at a time of pressure against Republican leader Donald Trump for rising fuel prices because of the war with Iran and a considerable fall in its popularity a few weeks from the US legislative elections.
