O euro fell again today against the dollar on the same day that the US urged G20 countries to cooperate to face a “critical moment” for the world.

At 18:20 (Lisbon time), the euro negotiated at $1,1163, when on Thursday, almost at the same time, it followed $1,1170.

The euro also retreated compared to the pound and yen.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has set the euro reference exchange at $1,1172.

At today's session, the euro fluctuated between $1.1137 and $1,1214.

The US Secretary of State today urged the G20 countries to cooperate to face what he described as a “critical moment” for the world.

“ We are at a critical moment not only for my country, the United States, but, frankly, for the whole world. We face a series of interconnected economic and geopolitical crises, many of which pose serious threats to the fundamentals of the world economic order,” said Marco Rubio at the beginning of the meeting of heads of diplomacy of the world’s leading industrialised and emerging economies (G20) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, is also present at the invitation of the United States.

Rubio particularly stressed the importance of freedom of navigation, in reference to the blockade of the Strait of Ormuz by Iran in response to the Israeli-American offensive and global food supply.

In this context, he stressed that the G20 “should work together to address these threats”, strengthen economic resilience and protect markets.

“ As diplomats and political leaders, we have a key role to play. We have the mandate, on behalf of the countries we represent, to work together to coordinate responses to emerging crises and protect our common interests,” he said.
