Farioli calls Tiago Ferreira and Veron in preparation of the Maritime-FC Porto

O FC Porto gave, at the end of the morning of Tuesday, continuity to the preparation work in view of the meeting of the eighth day of the I Liga, before the Maritime, in a session that, as usual, took place behind closed doors, in the Training and Sports Training Center Jorge Costa, in the Olival.

Francesco Farioli once again had a highly depleted squad, from the outset, due to injuries by oão Costa, Nehuén Pérez, Martim Fernandes, Zaidu Sanusi, Seko Fofana, Vasco Sousa, Gabri Veiga and André Miranda, who continue to work on “conditional training regime”, according to the club itself.

Francesco Farioli was also unable to count on the lot of players who are at the service of the respective selections, more precisely Diogo Costa (Portugal), João Afonso (sub-21 Portugal), Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior (Poland), Victor Froholdt (Denmark), Pablo Rosario (Dominican Republic), Inbeom Hwang (South Korea), Santiago Giménez (Mexico) and Dominik Prpic (sub-21 Croatia).

These nine players have indications to only re-present themselves at the service of the national champions in title next Thursday, so the Italian coach was forced to appeal once again to the B team to compose the working group, having, this time, ‘promoted’ a total of ten players.

Of all of them, the main highlight goes to Gabriel Veron, who, remember, returned to the Dragon Stadium last summer, after consecutive loans to Cruzeiro, Santos, Youth and National, and, without the direction led by André Villas-Boas having found him placement, was integrated into the training oriented by João Brandão.

There was also room for the call of Tiago Ferreira, Portuguese ‘veterano’ defense-central, 33 years old, who, also in the past defense, returned to the club in which he completed training, as a free player, after the end of the contract he kept with Paços de Ferreira, in the last sports season of 2025/26.

The training of blues and whites also counted on the presence of Gonçalo Ribeiro ( 20-year-old portuguese goalkeeper), Antoni Nikolov (17-year-old bulgarian goalkeeper), António Ribeiro (portuguese 22-year-old central defense), Luís Gomes (21-year-old portuguese central defense), Yoan Pereira 18-year-old portuguese side-left), Tiago Silva 19-year-old portuguese average), John Teixeira 20-year-old portuguese average) and Kauê Rodrigues (brazilian mean age 21 years).

Another of the news was John Abreu, 18-year-old Portuguese average, which belongs to the sub-19 team. Marítimo-FC Porto, remember, has an initial whistle scheduled for 18h00 (Hour of Continental Portugal) next Saturday, at the Stadium of Barreiros.

After all, what injuries afflict the Farioli squad?

João Costa, remember, he was operated on a meniscal lesion in his left knee about a month ago, while Nehuén Pérez it is due to a muscle injury to the right thigh, suffered shortly after having resumed the competition, following the total rupture of the right Achilles tendon contracted in september 2025.

Martim Fernandes continues to recover from muscle problems in the left thigh, Zaidu Sanusi of a muscle injury to the right leg adductor, Seko Fofana of a rupture in the adductor of the left leg, André Miranda of a muscle injury in the right thigh and Gabri Veiga of a mere physical discomfort.

The most worrying issue is the protagonist Vasco Sousa, who no longer plays since 14 December 2025, when he contracted a severe fracture in the right leg murion, during the heavy defeat suffered by Moreirense (club in which he acted as a loan) in the Stadium Commander Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, against Benfica, by 0-4.
