A Arte-Via Cooperative, from Lousã, in the district of Coimbra, organizer of the event, revealed that the next edition of the festival will take place from 13 to 16 May, in five municipalities, with the theme “Interiority and Resistance to dichotomy of hope”.

In a statement, the organization stressed that the festival intends to involve all development agents, all participating municipalities and all local talent, in all activities to be carried out simultaneously: training actions, contests, lectures, workshops, readings, book fairs, shows, multimedia, performances, facilities, exhibitions, for and with all audiences of all age groups.

“ The concept underlying this festival is that of a synergistic realization, catalyzing the resources of municipalities and other institutions that are part of the consortium, rendering and enhancing the best that each one has, in a joint effort to overcome the adversities ", said the coordinator, Ana Filomena Amaral.

During the month of May, there will be the usual literary residence, in this edition with Isabel Peixeiro, nominated for the Astrid Lindgren prize, which will go through the consortium councils.

In its tenth edition, Words of Fire honors the writer Branquinho da Fonseca, responsible for the creation of the Service of Itinerant Libraries of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which managed from 1958 to 1974.

The Revista Presence, published between 1927 and 1940, which was one of the most influential Portuguese literary magazines of the 20th century, will also be celebrated.

Having as patron the Presidency of the Republic, this festival was founded in 2018, after the forest fires of 2017 in the interior of the Center region, by novelist Ana Filomena Amaral and the Art-Via Cooperative, in honor of the victims, under the motto “Art and culture as reanimators of a region and a people”.

It has as partners associated with the Directorate-General of the Book, Archives and Libraries, the Network of School Libraries, the National Reading Plan, University of Coimbra and Prison Establishment of Coimbra.
