A Portuguese Air Force today transported three tons of essential goods to the island of Corvo, in the Azores, “minimizing the constraints felt on the smallest island of the archipelago in recent weeks,” the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) revealed.

Regular maritime supply to the island of Corvo has been conditioned by the state of the sea and the vessel THOR B be in compulsory scheduled maintenance.

According to a statement from the Regional Secretariat of Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure, the Portuguese Air Force assured this morning, “successfully”, the transport of essential goods to the island of Corvo, the smallest of the Azores, located in the Western group of the archipelago.

“ The operation ensured the replacement of the supply of the population, through the transport of three tons of essential goods, including frozen products, fruit and vegetables, minimizing the constraints felt on the smallest island of the archipelago in recent weeks ", indicated.

The executive explains in the note that “after an untimely breakdown” that prevented the completion of the mission earlier, the conclusion of the operation “results from close collaboration between the Government of the Azores and the Portuguese Air Force, which, once again, was associated with the effort to respond to an exceptional situation, ensuring the arrival of goods indispensable to the corvina population”.

The Regional Government “thanks the Portuguese Air Force for its prompt collaboration and commitment”, whose intervention “has been essential to ensure the supply of populations and mitigate the effects of extraordinary situations”.

Also according to the Azorean executive, it is foreseen that the vessel ISABEL C can deliver on Sunday morning essential goods and fuels (gas), in the port of the House, in the Raven.

“ In case there is no possibility of docking, the ship will seek protection on the island of Flores and will make another attempt as soon as the conditions allow ", pointed out.

On Thursday, the Government of the Azores assured that it was closely monitoring the supply situation of the island of Corvo and that “it has made multiple efforts, in conjunction with different entities to overcome the situation”.

The executive explained that the THOR vessel B is currently “in compulsory and indispensable scheduled maintenance to maintain its certification and operational capacity” on the smallest island of the Azores.

“ In its absence, it was planned that local traffic vessels could ensure regular supply, but sea conditions have not allowed the operation or docking at the port of the House ", added.

Faced with this contingency, the Government of the Azores assured, on Tuesday, through Atlanticoline, the transport of first-needed goods using the Ariel speedboat, which allowed “the transport of more than 400 kg on regular trips and 900 kg on an extraordinary journey dedicated exclusively to this purpose”.

The Regional Secretariat also pointed out that it was planned, for Wednesday, at the request of the Government of the Azores, an operation of the Portuguese Air Force, for the delivery of three tons of goods, but “the aircraft that would carry out this transport suffered that a technical malfunction that made the flight impossible”.

On Wednesday, the leader of the PS/Azores held the Regional Government responsible for the lack of planning that left the island of Corvo without regular maritime supply of goods, warning for implications in the supply of essential goods and transportation.

“ We are in the middle of 2026 and have an island in the Azores without regular maritime supplies for more than three weeks. We lack essential goods, there are establishments at risk of closing doors and farmers accumulate losses. This is a shame and it is absolutely unacceptable,” said Francisco César, quoted in a press release.
