‘Kika’ closed the first battery of the ‘quarters’ with 7.34 points (in 20 possible) in the two best waves (4.17 and 3.17), very close to Bettylou, which made 7.43 points (4.60 and 2.83) and secured a place in the half-finals.
The Hawaiian will face the American Caitlin Simmers (11.50 points), world champion in 2024, who pushed away the world champion (2011, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2021) and gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games2020 Carissa Moore (8.93) in the second heat, with the organization suspending the race at the end of this duel due to the deterioration of surfing conditions.
The next call is scheduled for 14:00 (Lisbon time) at Supertubes Beach and, if the event goes forward, the Portuguese Teresa Bonvalot is the first to enter the water, to face the American Lakey Peterson in the third battery of the ‘fourths’.
Whoever wins will face the winner of the match between Australian Molly Picklum, world champion in title, and Canadian Erin Brooks, who won the last three rounds of the Championship Tour (CT).
With Yolanda Hopkins and Frederico Morais, in the male picture, already eliminated, Guilherme Ribeiro is still in competition, and will face the Brazilian Ithalo Ferreira, world champion in 2019 and gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games2020, in the second heat of the quarter finals.
The Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal, 10th and pre-penultimate stage of the Championship Tour (CT), began on Friday and the waiting period extends until 25 October.
